Fixed rate mortgage interest rates rose once again this week to an average of 6.24 percent, compared to 6.04 percent one week ago. This trend may put a damper on mortgage refinancing says the chief economist at Freddie Mac.

The Wenatchee Area leads the nation in home price appreciation with a 4th quarter apprecion rate of 13.7% in 2007. Seattle home prices rose 5.9% during the same period.

With home prices falling in other parts of the country, Seattle Area residential property increased in value slightly from December 2006 to December 2007. Home prices may be going up in Seattle, but the rate of appreciation has fallen steadily for 22 months. The Northwest MLS reported that even though Seattle Area home prices fell slightly in December, they rebounded in January of 2008.

A recent article in the Seattle Post Intelligencer lists some foreclosure numbers from Realty Trac for October, and November 2007, as well as total numbers of foreclosures in 2007 in the Seattle Area. Total foreclosure filings were up a noticeable 26 percent in 2007 from the 2006 levels in King County, and they were also up 28 percent statewide. For the rest of the country the number is close to 75 percent, according to RealtyTrac, who tracks foreclosure numbers.

With a construction completion date of Summer 2008, the Brix condominiums have already held a number of buyer events, so the new homeowners can mingle, and get to know one another. There are still a few units left for sale, but with a limited number of new condos available in the North Capitol Hill Area, they may not last very long. The new owners are eager to move in, and enoy the neighborhood.
